Having enough. That may be the biggest single issue that leads to human conflict. Somebody is afraid of not having enough and so tries to make up the difference by taking from somebody else.

But Scripture tells us again and again that there is more than enough for everybody. In fact, we would do better to worry about how to best give stuff away than to concern ourselves with collecting more.

There's enough time right now for you to consider what you have as a follower of God, and what you might do to give away what you own.

Listen

She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.

1 Kings 17:15-16

Think

The risk this widow took by offering her last scraps of bread to a stranger who comes in the name of the Lord was almost unimaginable. Can you imagine what it must have felt like to make such a sacrifice in the name of God’s hospitality? And somehow, God’s transformative power fed the entire household for many days!

Fear and anxiety are everywhere in our world. From Adam and Eve to the betrayal of Jesus Christ by his closest friends at the cross, to getting through school, to raising a family, to dealing with bullying, to resisting peer pressure or social injustice, we feel the impacts of fear, anxiety, and shame all over the place.

However, abundance doesn’t always mean having lots of money or nice things. If you think about it, Jesus never had much money or even really a home as an adult. But the wholeness of the deeper life that God created us for can make us richer than even the wealthiest person.

Pray

God of holiness, grant me the peace and the serenity to find wholeness in the life you have called me toward. Amen.

Go

Look around right now;
See all that you possess,
All that is yours.

Now remind yourself
That it all belongs to God;
It is in your hands
For just a moment.

Live your life today
Grateful
For the abundance
Of grace that is yours

To give away.
