Pause

Inhale:
There is beauty in new beginnings.

Exhale:
God, you are with me.

Listen

I have sought you with all my heart. Don’t let me stray from any of your commandments!

I keep your word close, in my heart, so that I won’t sin against you.

I will think about your precepts and examine all your paths.

Psalm 119:10-11, 15

Think

I bet if we were sitting across from each other at an ice cream shop and I asked you if you could remember a piece of advice that a family member has shared with you… you could list off a few. Maybe you could even quote an inspirational quote that motivates you in life, or sing the lyrics to your favorite song if I put you on the spot.

These words are hidden in your heart from different life experiences. What would it look like if we tucked Scripture into our hearts the way that we do quotes from family members, movies, and songs? We can remember advice from our family members because we have spent a lot of time with them, and we can remember the lyrics to our favorite song because we listen to it over and over again. What would it look like if we read Scripture so much that it was hidden in our hearts? In all of these scenarios, it takes effort on our end. How can we refocus our priorities to memorize God’s word?

Pray

Loving God, give me a desire to memorize your word and know you more deeply.

Help me to tuck your truths in my heart and lean on your word when I am weary.

Amen.

Go

The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.
