Back to School

Pause

Inhale:
There is beauty in new beginnings.

Exhale:
God, you are with me.

Listen

My life is stuck in the dirt. Now make me live again according to your promise!

I confessed my ways and you answered me. Now teach me your statutes!

Help me understand what your precepts are about so I can contemplate your wondrous works!

Psalm 119:25-27

Think

We have talked a lot this week about refocusing our minds and our priorities on God. We have been challenged by Scripture to commit or recommit our lives to God as we take on a new school year, a fresh start. I did not get serious about my relationship with God until I was a junior in high school. When I finally decided that I wanted to know God more deeply, I had a hard time knowing where to start. The Bible can seem very overwhelming and confusing when you are not used to reading it every day. Guess what? We all have to start somewhere!

As you begin to read Scripture, ask God to help you understand the meaning of the passage you are reading. God can help us understand Scripture through the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of us, through a friend who is further along on their journey with the Lord, or maybe even through a small group leader or pastor at your church. Keep seeking God, and God will reveal the meaning of God’s word to you.

Pray

God, help me to seek your word even when I do not understand it.

Provide people in my life that have a deeper understanding of who you are to help grow and nurture my faith.

Give me a desire to know you more.

Amen.

Go

The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.
