Ordinary Time
Now thank we all our God, with heart, and hands, and voices.
Who wondrous things hath done, in whom [Godās] world rejoices.
Martin Rinkart, āNow Thank We All Our Godā
Donāt fear, fertile land; rejoice and be glad, for the Lord is about to do great things! Donāt be afraid, animals of the field, for the meadows of the wilderness will turn green; the tree will bear its fruit; the fig tree and grapevine will give their full yield.
Children of Zion, rejoice and be glad in the Lord your God, because he will give you the early rain as a sign of righteousness; he will pour down abundant rain for you,Ā the early and the late rain, as before. The threshing floors will be full of grain; the vats will overflow with new wine and fresh oil.
Joel 2:21-24
What if there isnāt enough? Have you ever found yourself asking that question? What if there isnāt enough time to finish this homework assignment? What if there isnāt enough money at the end of the month? Will I have enough patience to deal with a frustrating season at school or work?
We worry a lot about if there is enough. In fact, we are more programmed for scarcity than we are to seeing abundance. There never seems to be enough, and that causes us a deep sense of stress and a desire to have more and more.
The prophet Joel is here to remind us that this is not the truth of God or Godās kingdom. In these verses, we read about a God who shares abundantly with all. God has given an abundance that overflows to each of us. In our times of feeling like there simply is not enough, let us remember that we follow a God of abundance.

Question to Ponder:
What would it look like to give thanks for Godās abundance instead of worrying about scarcity?
God of abundance, you are enough for my yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Thanks for filling me with your love.
Amen.
Give thanks for the past and know that God was with you.
Give thanks for today and know that God is with you now.
Give thanks for tomorrow and know that God will be with you still.
