Ordinary Time
Now thank we all our God, with heart, and hands, and voices.
Who wondrous things hath done, in whom [Godâs] world rejoices.
Martin Rinkart, âNow Thank We All Our Godâ
âTherefore, I say to you, donât worry about your life, what youâll eat or what youâll drink, or about your body, what youâll wear. Isnât life more than food and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds in the sky. They donât sow seed or harvest grain or gather crops into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Arenât you worth much more than they are?â
Matthew 6:25-26
The first day of school was always my least favorite day of the school year. I knew everyone would have all the newest and coolest clothes and school supplies. And I knew I was bringing the same backpack, shoes, and worn-out clothes from last year. I was nervous that I was being judged for not having the latest trends or best supplies.
Even as an adult, I still feel that way. When I see a TikTok or Reel of a âGet Ready with Meâ post, I have that same feeling that the things I have are not enough. Playing the comparison games never leads to thankfulness.
Jesus reminds the crowds that have gathered to listen to him of this same truth. How often are you comparing yourself to others or what you have with what others have? Isnât God more than what you have and what you can wear? Wonât God care for you more than the latest trend? May we hold onto that truth when we find ourselves playing the comparison game in our own lives.

Question to Ponder:
What would it look like to not play the comparison game?
God of abundance, you are enough for my yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I struggle with comparing myself to others whenâŠ
Thank you for being more than enough.
Amen.
Give thanks for the past and know that God was with you.
Give thanks for today and know that God is with you now.
Give thanks for tomorrow and know that God will be with you still.
