Ordinary Time

Pause

O God,
let something essential and joyful happen in me now,
something like the blooming of hope and faith,
like a grateful heart,
like a surge of awareness
of how precious each moment is,
that now, not next time,
now is the occasion
to take off my shoes
to see every bush afire,
to leap and whirl with neighbor,
to gulp the air as sweet wine…

Listen

So, since we have such a hope, we act with great confidence. We aren’t like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face so that the Israelites couldn’t watch the end of what was fading away. But their minds were closed. Right up to the present day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. The veil is not removed because it is taken away by Christ. Even today, whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts. But whenever someone turns back to the Lord, the veil is removed.

2 Corinthians 3:12-16

Think

I have listened to experts talk about cryptocurrency, and I have tried to follow along in the storylines of some of the Anime cartoons my sons have watched. Many times, I feel as if I am no closer to understanding than when I had first begun. Whether it is my sense of art, my understanding of economics, or just a glitch, some things just don’t make sense until they do.

A similar thing happens sometimes in matters of faith. Paul speaks of the veil that prevents us from understanding the love of God through Jesus. When we come to faith, we may have a hard time understanding those who don’t believe. How does your experience with God through Jesus color the way you see or experience those whose experience is different from yours? What care do you show to others who may understand crypto but can’t understand your love of God and God’s love of us?

Pray

Lord, remove the cover from my eyes and mind, heart and understanding, that I will embrace you fully and welcome others into relationship with you as well.

Amen.
