Ordinary Time
Close your eyes, take a deep breath.
Prepare your mind and heart for what God wants to give you today.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
Have you ever thought that your actions are what makes others accept you? There are times when wanting to be liked by others leads us to do things that are not in accordance with God’s ways. Sometimes our actions are not pleasing to God, and we do not know how to reconcile that. We equate being liked with doing the things others want us to do even though we know what we’re doing isn’t right.
How often do we get carried away by what our friends think of the things we do? We constantly feel the pressure to be accepted by others, and we shape our actions to that end. We rarely ask ourselves whether our actions are acceptable to God. Although not all our actions are pleasing to God, we are loved by God unconditionally. When we understand love without conditions, all insecurity that makes us do whatever it takes to be liked goes away. Instead, we can live out our heart’s desire to be liked by God, without any fear of rejection.

Question to Ponder:
Why do you think we are more concerned about being pleasing to others and do not think about whether our actions are pleasing to God?
God, thank you for seeing me with eyes of favor even when I don’t deserve it. Help me to make my actions, words, and thoughts acceptable in your eyes. May everything I do and say bring you glory and honor.
Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord’s face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the eyes of God’s favor be upon you and may you do the work that God has put in you.
