Is God enough for you to be enough?
Too often, we focus so much on our own accomplishments and failures that we forget that God is behind the scenes, beneath our feet, beyond our imaginations doing unexpected things and offering undeserved grace. And maybe that’s enough . . .
“God has the power to provide you with more than enough of every kind of grace. That way, you will have everything you need always and in everything to provide more than enough for every kind of good work.”
2 Corinthians 9:8
Listen
The righteous will spring up like a palm tree. They will grow strong like a cedar of Lebanon. Those who have been replanted in the Lord’s house will spring up in the courtyards of our God.
Psalm 92:12-13
Think
Have you ever moved schools? Perhaps you’ve moved houses, changed teams, or started attending a new church.
Life is full of big changes like this, and these changes can be very unsettling, like the very ground beneath your feet has changed (in some cases, it literally has!).
Just as uprooted trees face the threat of “transplant shock” when they are replanted in a new environment, big changes in our lives can feel traumatic and we can wonder if we’ll ever feel rooted and alive again.
The Psalmist was aware of these fears and the inevitability of change, but also knew exactly what kind of re-rooting was needed to survive and thrive. Instead of being “dug up,” the Psalmist sings of a life that “springs up” with life and vitality. Such re-rooting takes place in the soil of God’s presence and love, a place where life springs forth even in the midst of fear and instability.

Pray
God, help me to be rooted in your love, growing where you’ve planted me. No matter what changes I face, I know that you will always provide what I need. As I receive what you give, help me to spring up into a beautiful creation. Amen.
