Ordinary Time

Pause

Let’s share a breath prayer. Three beats on the inhale, thinking, “God is holy.”

Hold one beat, thinking, “And.”

Exhale for three beats, thinking, “I am holy.”

Try it three times! “God is holy – and – I am holy.”

Listen

Lord, you have been our help, generation after generation. Before the mountains were born, before you birthed the earth and the inhabited world—from forever in the past to forever in the future, you are God.

Psalm 90:1-2

Think

To be holy is to be like God. Aren’t you glad we don’t have to do this by ourselves? Today’s psalm says, “Lord, you have been our help…”

In what ways do you need God to help you be more loving, kind, or gentle today? Is there someone in your life who frustrates or challenges you? What would Jesus think about them? What would Jesus say to them? How would Jesus treat them?

Just for today, could you try to practice compassion toward them? The word compassion means “to suffer with.” Perhaps Jesus is inviting you to prayerfully enter into their suffering and offer some relief. Even a smile or a tender word could make a difference. We never know what someone is going through. Let’s choose love!

Question to Ponder:

Who is God calling you to practice compassion toward today?

Pray

Gracious God, help me to be more like you. You are love. Please make me more loving. Amen.

Go

As you go about your day, intentionally seek opportunities to be more like Jesus. How can you increase your love, care, or gentleness toward others? Make it your goal to practice one random act of kindness today.
