Ordinary Time

Pause

God wants to be known. Across the ages since the beginning of creation, God has wanted to be made known in a real and personal way among humankind. Still today with us, God wants to be known.

In God’s great bigness and mighty justice, in swift glimpses we catch of Divine glory on display, in the life and witness of a community living their faith out loud, and in spite of all efforts to suppress the reality of God, God is made known.

How are you allowing God to be made known in your life today?

Listen

The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise your great and awesome name. Holy is he! Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Extol the Lord our God; worship at his footstool. Holy is he!

Psalm 99:1-5

Think

God made known.

What does this phrase mean? It is certainly a hope. We want God to be made known to us. Hopefully and just maybe, in this stillness and time, God will become more known to you today.

We begin with Psalm 99 that proclaims “The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble!” This opening line is an all-encompassing statement of God’s status. God is not royalty over a particular region or land or people group – and certainly cannot be likened to the monarchies of today. God’s kingship spreads over all creation and time. All the peoples should tremble at the Lord’s greatness.

God is known through being the “Mighty King” that loves justice, establishes equity, and executes justice and righteousness. We as the people respond with praise and worship. “Holy is he!…Holy is he!”

Allow God to be made known to you today through meditating on the greatness and bigness of God.
