Ordinary Time
Think of something you want. Now think of something you need. In which of the two do you see God?
He gave some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. His purpose was to equip God’s people for the work of serving and building up the body of Christ until we all reach the unity of faith and knowledge of God’s Son. God’s goal is for us to become mature adults—to be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ.
Ephesians 4:11-13
I love superhero movies. The action and stories are great. The center of the film is the transformation of a normal person who now has a superpower. In all of these movies there is someone helping this person along the way, a companion who has an ability that complements the hero’s superpower.
God’s provision is so great that we are all called to complement God’s superpower of love with a mission to serve. When we serve God, we turn our gift and ability into a complement to God’s love for humanity.
You may have once thought that your ability to talk, draw, sing, build robots, solve math problems, or play sports was no superpower at all. However, God’s word lets us know that your talent and gift are important so that God’s power can edify the rest of the world to know Jesus. Do you dare to say yes to the mission?

Question to Ponder:
What talents do you have to complement God’s mission?
God, let me understand your mission and calling.
Inspire me to say yes.
Let my action be part of your work in the world.
Amen.
Think about what people want. Now think about what they need. In which one can you show God?
