Consider this text from John Newton's, The Lord Will Provide.

Though troubles assail and dangers affright,
Though friends should all fail and foes all unite;
Yet one thing secures us, whatever betide,
The scripture assures us, the Lord will provide.

Still your heart. When you are ready, read today's scripture and open yourself to the One who provides.

O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wonderful works. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually. Remember the wonderful works he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, O offspring of his servant Abraham, children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold, and there was no one among their tribes who stumbled. Egypt was glad when they departed, for dread of them had fallen upon it. He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light by night. They asked, and he brought quails, and gave them food from heaven in abundance. He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed through the desert like a river. For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham, his servant. So he brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with singing. He gave them the lands of the nations, and they took possession of the wealth of the peoples, that they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Praise the Lord!

Have you ever experienced something so great you needed to tell everyone about it? Have you wanted to shout from the rooftops about something awesome that's happened for you? Maybe you made a good grade on a project you worked on for a long time, got your driver’s license, made it on a sports team, or were accepted to college. Good things are worth sharing.

The Psalmist speaks of God’s provision for the people of Israel as they journey to the Promised Land. God cared for Israel and provided what they needed. The Psalmist reminds us of all that was provided: food, shade, light for the night, and water. But it doesn't mean it was easy. In the coming days we will see the people of Israel's growing frustration as they walked for days and days on end.

However, just like the people of Israel, we are not alone. God provides for us in ways unexpected and, at times, unseen...but God always provides.

God, each day you take care of me in ways seen and unseen. Help me to recognize you and celebrate the ways you walk with me each day. Amen.

No strength of our own, or goodness we claim,
Yet since we have known the Savior's great name;
In this our strong tower for safety we hide,
The Lord is our power, the Lord will provide.
