Ordinary Time

Pause

Come. Come to the well of God’s Word and draw from the source of hope, inspiration, and courage that only God can give us through the Love of Jesus Christ.

Listen

The Lord your God will raise up a prophet like me from your community, from your fellow Israelites. He’s the one you must listen to. That’s exactly what you requested from the Lord your God at Horeb, on the day of the assembly, when you said, “I can’t listen to the Lord my God’s voice anymore or look at this great fire any longer. I don’t want to die!”

Deuteronomy 18:15-16

Think

The people are at breaking point; they are feeling they can’t go on. They need a voice of hope. And Moses reminds them that hope comes from God and God “will raise up a prophet from [their] community…” And prophets were raised up from their community.

Today is no different. We face our challenges and breaking points. We are looking for words of hope, too. And Moses’ words are also true for us: God will raise up prophets from your community to speaks those words of hope.

In many ways we are all prophets; we can all speak words of hope to one another. God calls us all, one way or another. You can be that prophet – whether it’s through the words you speak, the things you do for others, or simply the smiles you give. Be a prophet. Share some hope.

Pray

Source of hope and comfort, you call me each day to the wellspring of hope that is your grace and love. May that hope flow through me to others in making a difference in the lives of those I encounter. Amen.

Go

Go. Go from the well of God’s Word and presence, knowing that what we draw there sustains us, renews us, and gives us life to be the people of God and Christ’s light in the world.
