Ordinary Time

Pause

Come. Come to the well of God’s Word and draw from the source of hope, inspiration, and courage that only God can give us through the Love of Jesus Christ.

Listen

The Lord said to me: What they’ve said is right. I’ll raise up a prophet for them from among their fellow Israelites—one just like you. I’ll put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. I myself will hold accountable anyone who doesn’t listen to my words, which that prophet will speak in my name. However, any prophet who arrogantly speaks a word in my name that I haven’t commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods—that prophet must die.

Deuteronomy 18:17-20

Think

Notice that in today’s passage, just as in yesterday’s passage, the source of what happens or the “well” from which we draw is God. Moses’ call story, where he feels unworthy and incapable of doing what God is calling him to do, continues to reverberate here. It reminds the people and reminds us that when God calls, that calling is based less on what we can do on our own and more on what God can do with us and our unique gifts, given by God.

Someone once said, “God doesn’t call the qualified, but qualifies the called.” This reminds me 1) that I’m not alone in God’s calling and 2) that it doesn’t solely rest upon me to fulfill that call.

Know that you are not alone in what God is calling you to do. You are never alone. You have the Spirit of God upon you to be the best at what God needs you to do and be.

Pray

Source of all gifts and talents, you know me by name and you know what I am capable of doing in this world through you. Help me to recognize the gifts you have bestowed upon me that I might in turn use them for your good purpose to make this place just a little bit better. Amen.

Go

Go. Go from the well of God’s Word and presence, knowing that what we draw there sustains us, renews us, and gives us life to be the people of God and Christ’s light in the world.
