Ordinary Time

Pause

God can.

God will.

God does.

Listen

I know you can do anything; no plan of yours can be opposed successfully. You said, ā€œWho is this darkening counsel without knowledge?ā€ I have indeed spoken about things I didnā€™t understand, wonders beyond my comprehension. You said, ā€œListen and I will speak; I will question you and you will inform me.ā€ My ears had heard about you, but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore, I relent and find comfort on dust and ashes.

Job 42:1-6

Think

Since I was very young, Iā€™ve read the Bible and heard from several people all that God has done for human beings. I remember one day a young man from my church was telling me about the deep sadness he was going through. He said that his suffering made him think that there was no solution. It was like falling off a cliff with no one to help him. This young man encountered the power of God through another young man who approached him and told him: God wants to help you, and I am here to help you.

Job claimed to know the power of God. His knowledge came from what he learned by hearing, perhaps through his family or in the social realm. It was not until he experienced pain through sickness and loneliness that he decided to get closer to God, really know God and feel Godā€™s power.

There are days when we urgently long for God’s power to supply what we need, and there are days when we are God’s instruments to show God’s power to others.

Question to Ponder:

When have you experienced Godā€™s power or been an instrument to show Godā€™s power to others?

Pray

Powerful God, I come before you to supply my need for…

At the same time, make me an instrument of your power to…

Amen.

Go

Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us.
