Ordinary Time
Certainly the faithful love of the Lord hasn’t ended…Great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22–23
So we aren’t depressed. But even if our bodies are breaking down on the outside, the person that we are on the inside is being renewed every day. Our temporary minor problems are producing an eternal stockpile of glory for us that is beyond all comparison. We don’t focus on the things that can be seen but on the things that can’t be seen. The things that can be seen don’t last, but the things that can’t be seen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
As children of an eternal God there are eternal things that define us and are important to keep in the forefront of our thoughts as we consider what we allow to influence us. If we ignore the eternal and let only the things that are temporary shape who we are, it may be time to stop and refocus. What we tell ourselves informs our emotions and beliefs and can either strengthen us or bring us down. So let us be diligent to renew our minds daily and focus on the truths of who we really are as God’s own:
You are a friend of God (John 15:15).
You are God’s child (Ephesians 1:5).
The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead is living in you (Romans 8:11).
You are not alone and cannot be separated from the love of God (Romans 8:28).
You belong to God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
You have a purpose (Ephesians 2:10).
Let’s remember these truths when our circumstances or the people around us try to bring us down.

Question to Ponder:
What is something temporary in your life that you allow to shape or define you?
Lord, with your faithful, unending love help me trust in these eternal truths of who I am. Though in this life I have troubles, please strengthen me and help me to focus on what really matters.
What I want to remember today is…
Amen.
Go into the world today knowing that you are a child of God. God goes before you, Christ is within you, and the Holy Spirit will guide you. God is faithful, and God’s love for you never ends.
