Ordinary Time 
Pause
The Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing.
He lets me rest in grassy meadows; he leads me to restful waters; he keeps me alive.
He guides me in proper paths for the sake of his good name.

The Lord spoke to Moses, “I’ve heard the complaints of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘At twilight you will eat meat. And in the morning you will have your fill of bread. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.’”
In the evening a flock of quail flew down and covered the camp. And in the morning there was a layer of dew all around the camp. When the layer of dew lifted, there on the desert surface were thin flakes, as thin as frost on the ground. When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, “What is it?” They didn’t know what it was.
Moses said to them, “This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.”

Think
When God shows up in our lives, do we know it? In today’s passage, the Israelites clearly see a gift from God, but they do not know what it is. Thankfully they have Moses to tell them not only what it is, but whom it is from.
Sometimes I think that we are so used to trying to take care of things on our own that we forget to look for how God is with us and helping us. Sometimes we need something totally weird to happen – like bread that looks like frost to randomly show up on the ground – to remind us that we have Someone else involved in our lives and well-being. But even if that did happen, we could still miss it! … Or just not know what it is. God provides for us in unexpected ways, and yet we can always expect that God will provide.

Pray
God who provides for me in ways I notice and ways I miss, train me to see you. Put others in my life who will point out your provision when I miss it. Give me the wisdom to point out your provision to others when they miss it. Amen.

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger because you are with me.
