Ordinary Time

Pause

Still my mind.

Open my heart.

Holy Spirit, welcome in.

Listen

In the year of King Uzziah’s death, I saw the Lord sitting on a high and exalted throne, the edges of his robe filling the temple. Winged creatures were stationed around him. Each had six wings: with two they veiled their faces, with two their feet, and with two they flew about. They shouted to each other, saying:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of heavenly forces! All the earth is filled with God’s glory!”

The doorframe shook at the sound of their shouting, and the house was filled with smoke.

Isaiah 6:1-4

Think

In high school, my physics class was fun. My teacher really loved making it an interactive class. We got to use our hands in creative ways as often as our pencils. When we started on the principles of matter, we got to play with balloons. We learned that a gas will always fill the space it is given. When a balloon of air pops, the air doesn’t disappear but disperses into the atmosphere of the larger space, again seeking to fill the space.

In Isaiah’s scripture reading, we hear that the edge of the Lord’s robe is so big it fills the temple. The glory of the Lord is filling the earth. God fills the space available like a gas, like the air we breathe. When we let God in, the Spirit fills us and all that we do so that it takes all the space available. Everything we do once we let God in becomes infused with God’s Spirit. We become vessels of God in the world. It is our choice to follow the directions God gives.

Question to Ponder:

Where is the Spirit guiding me to be more open to God’s leading?

Pray

Holy God, I would love to encounter you today in each and every breath I take. Help me to let your presence move me in new ways.

Amen.
