Ordinary Time

Pause

Still my mind.

Open my heart.

Holy Spirit, welcome in.

Listen

The Lord sits enthroned over the floodwaters; the Lord sits enthroned—king forever!

Let the Lord give strength to his people! Let the Lord bless his people with peace!

Psalm 29:10-11

Think

Flood waters have at least two significant personalities. There are the rushing floods, which come in quickly with fast-moving water. They cause destruction by ramming through areas where water should not ram, and then recede quickly. The other flood personality is the sludge floods, in which the water rises and then recedes slowly, leaving the sludge of the river bottom coating every nook and cranny of the flooded area. Both create destruction and a huge mess to clean up. The waters themselves are notoriously dangerous. The fast-moving ones have currents, and the slow-moving ones have diseases. You don’t want to go in there.

But God, God is still in charge. God sits enthroned over the flood waters. God has power over even the scariest of disasters and challenges. God will continue to give you strength and blessing so you can rise over the flood waters in your life.

Question to Ponder:

Where is the Spirit guiding me to trust that God is reigning in my life?

Pray

Powerful God, thank you for being the one in charge when things get rough in the world. Help me to trust that you are walking with me in the muck. Today I need to know you’re with me in…

Amen.
