Jesus traveled among all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, announcing the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness. Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Matthew 9:35-36

Think

Being sick is the worst. I lived in Virginia, and springtime meant allergies, a chest infection, bad asthma, and sneezing for me every year. So much sneezing. I hated spring. Most people were outside looking at the pretty flowers and frolicking in the meadows. Not me. I was sick indoors!

Imagine Jesus traveling and healing EVERY disease and EVERY sickness. Cancer—gone.  Depression—transformed by hope and light. Injuries healed. Hungry fed. The dying corners of the earth brought to life. My allergies—all cleared up.

Jesus brings this kingdom—this new reality of life—because he has compassion. Jesus suffers with us our diseases and sicknesses and makes a new world, bringing help and healing to all. He even sees and finds us when we are a little lost, perhaps like a sheep without a shepherd.

Question to Ponder:

What might healing look like for something going on in your life?

Pray

Jesus, our healer, thank you for bringing good news as you are with me in my diseases and sicknesses. Help me to feel your compassion and remember I’m never alone and that you see me. Amen.
