Ordinary Time
Listen. Do you hear it? The Spirit is inviting you into God’s Story.
So they went out and proclaimed that people should change their hearts and lives. They cast out many demons, and they anointed many sick people with olive oil and healed them.
Mark 6:12-13
There’s a term in baseball and golf, “follow through,” used in reference to completing the full swing of the bat or club. I grew up watching these two sports with my dad and brother, though I can’t say my own swing in either sport is very good. But often we use this term when talking about our response to instructions given to us. Someone might ask if we have followed through with the list of things they asked us to do, wondering if we have completed the tasks.
In these verses, the disciples are following through with the call they received from Jesus in yesterday’s passage, empowering them to do the ministry he started. The disciples hear the call, receive the message, and follow through with the ministry asked of them. When we hear the story God is calling us into, we too must follow through with the tasks being asked of us.
