Listen. Do you hear it? The Spirit is inviting you into God’s Story.

Listen

Jesus said to them, “Prophets are honored everywhere except in their own hometowns, among their relatives, and in their own households.” He was unable to do any miracles there, except that he placed his hands on a few sick people and healed them. He was appalled by their disbelief.

Mark 6:4-6a

Think

Hometown heroes and sheroes often receive praise and gratitude for who they are and what they have done. I’m sure we can all name someone in our hometown with such a status. Sometimes a town may even have a parade for someone or host a dinner in their honor. But in this story, Jesus does not receive this reaction in his hometown. The people react in the opposite manner, rejecting his teaching and ministry.

When in your life have you rejected who Jesus is? Many of us have grown up in the church and have heard about Jesus throughout our lives. But when Jesus shows up and invites us into his story, do we welcome him, like a homecoming, perhaps? Or do we respond in disbelief or rejection? How would our lives look different today if we welcomed God’s calling into our lives, rather than ignoring it?
