What do you expect from God? For some, this is the question.

But then there is this one: What does God expect from you?

There may be answers to both in the moments just ahead. Listen carefully for the whisper of answers.

Listen

Happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord. Happy are those who keep his decrees, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways. You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. O that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.

Psalm 119:1-6

Think

During a recent hiking trip, I noticed how nice it was to follow an established trail. The trail had been cleared of large debris, and it led me around treacherous terrain and away from steep drop-offs. Because of this, I was able to walk in the right direction and stay focused on where I was going, instead of wandering aimlessly through the woods.

Sometimes in life I find myself wandering aimlessly, following my own ways instead of the ways God has set in place. Today’s psalm is a reminder that our responsibility as God’s people is to follow the laws and commands established by God. God’s precepts and statutes are guidelines on how to live and can lead us to experience happiness and blessing from God.

Pray

O Lord, help me to always follow your ways instead of my own. Help me to seek you with all my heart and diligently follow your commands. Amen.

Go

Go now expectantly into your day,
And walk with your eyes to the horizon.

Believe with confidence;
Anticipate the new;
Assume the unknown;
Be ready for change.

Trust that the Creator is at work;
Await the prompting of Spirit.

Look forward to challenge,
And make it your intention to respond.

Count on God.
