What do you expect from God? For some, this is the question.

But then there is this one: What does God expect from you?

There may be answers to both in the moments just ahead. Listen carefully for the whisper of answers.

Listen

"Again, you have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, 'You shall not swear falsely, but carry out the vows you have made to the Lord.' But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let your word be 'Yes, Yes' or 'No, No'; anything more than this comes from the evil one."

Matthew 5:33-37

Think

The power of our words exists in how we live them out, not in how many words we speak or how eloquently we say them.

We can go on and on and on and on about how true our promises are going to be, but Jesus says that a simple yes or no will suffice.

As we search for the right words to say today, maybe we should keep it simple and let our yes be yes and our no be no in all we say and in all we do.

Pray

O Lord, help me to be sincere in the words I speak. May every promise I make be sincere and in accordance with your word. Amen.

Go

Go now expectantly into your day,
And walk with your eyes to the horizon.

Believe with confidence;
Anticipate the new;
Assume the unknown;
Be ready for change.

Trust that the Creator is at work;
Await the prompting of Spirit.

Look forward to challenge,
And make it your intention to respond.

Count on God.
