Journey to the Cross

Pause

Take a moment to look over your shoulder to see where your journey has taken you so far…

Take a moment to look ahead to the horizon…

Listen

Jesus replied, “The light is with you for only a little while. Walk while you have the light so that darkness doesn’t overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness don’t know where they are going. As long as you have the light, believe in the light so that you might become people whose lives are determined by the light.” After Jesus said these things, he went away and hid from them.

John 12:35-36a

Think

We had hoped to get on the road for our summer camping trip in plenty of time to set up camp. An hour into the drive we realized the sleeping bags were still in the garage. After backtracking, retrieving them, and getting back on the road, we had lost two hours of daylight.

It was dusk by the time we reached the parking lot for the trailhead. Quickly unloading our gear, a couple of us wondered out loud if it was still a good idea to begin hiking into the woods to our campsite. Yet, excitement took over, and off we went. Big mistake! Even though a few of us had headlamps, we continued to take the wrong trail. A 30-minute hike ended up being two hours of frustration, wandering in the woods until we found our destination.

When we follow the way of Jesus, sometimes the path seems unclear. We can trust that God will provide light for our journey as we continue to take one step at a time.

Question to Ponder:

Who might you share the light of Jesus with on your journey to the cross?
