Ordinary Time

Pause

Praise, purpose, and presence are the building blocks of finding a home in God.

What is there to praise God for today?

What is one way you can live into God’s purpose for you?

Where is God’s presence most clear to you?

Listen

A vision of a man from Macedonia came to Paul during the night. He stood urging Paul, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!” Immediately after he saw the vision, we prepared to leave for the province of Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.

Acts 16:9-10

Think

In the Acts of the Apostles, St. Paul is a man on the move. He moves from place to place in response to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. However, Paul remains steadfast in knowing where his true home is: the Kingdom of God. In the Gospel of Luke, when asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come, Jesus responds: “In fact, the kingdom of God is among you.”

At all times, God is with you; God is the place where you find stability and meaning. St. Benedict knew this deep in his soul when he wrote his rule for monastic living, encouraging his monks to depend fully on God’s reliability. Paul’s missionary life would have made him a terrible monastic, but his dependence on God was no less complete.

Question to Ponder:

What spiritual practices help you remember that the kingdom of God is your truest home?

Pray

God of stability, grant that, even in times of great change and uncertainty, I may come to rely fully on the promise that you are always with me. Today I am uncertain about…

Help me to rely on you. Amen.

Whatever you encounter today, remember that your home is always in God.
