Oh, that my words were written down, inscribed on a scroll with an iron instrument and lead, forever engraved on stone. But I know that my redeemer is alive and afterward he’ll rise upon the dust.
Job 19:23-25
Job is one of the most well-known characters in all the Bible. His ancient story still resonates with us today because it explores timeless questions of the religious life like, “Where is God in my suffering?” and “Why do bad things happen to good people?” Job was an honest, kind, and faithful man whose goodness and religious devotion did not protect him from experiencing some of life’s most terrible tragedies.
Job did not bear his pain and confusion secretly or quietly. He was open and loud about his hurt and sense of being forgotten by God. He cried out for answers to his hard questions about life, but none came. In this passage Job holds on to the hope that one day the understanding he seeks will be granted to his people, even if someone else, a “redeemer” must continue to plead his case.

God, may I trust that when I need it, someone else will stand up and speak for me.
When I am overwhelmed and confused by the hard times I face in my life, may my struggles not be forgotten and the answers I seek be granted in God’s good time.
Amen.
Walk humbly with your God
On paths not rutted from overuse
Walk toward people not of your kind
Walk with Jesus
And you will never walk alone
