Ordinary Time
Pray a breath prayer, silently repeating the following phrases from Psalm 46 with each deep breath. (Repeat for as long as you like, but aim for at least 4-5 times.)
Breathe in: āBe still and knowā
Breathe out: āthat I am God.ā
āWhenever you cry out to me, Iāll answer. Iāll be with you in troubling times. Iāll save you and glorify you. Iāll fill you full with old age. Iāll show you my salvation.ā
Psalm 91:15-16
Itās comforting to hear that God is with us when things get tough. But sometimes Godās answers to our prayers donāt come when weād like or arenāt what we would hope. Like we read earlier this week, James and John got an answer like this from Jesus when they asked to be at his right and left hand, a āthatās not for me to decideā and a reminder that leadership doesnāt look quite like they thought.
Trusting God means opening ourselves to the unexpected and being humble enough to consider that our answers might not be the only ones. Of course, thatās easier said than done, in the middle of everything life throws at us: wondering whatās coming next, worrying about a loved one, or figuring out who we really are in the face of all the things that compete for our attention. Whether Godās answers to your prayers are ringing loud and clear, or feeling especially hard to hear, remember Godās promise:
Iāll be with you.
Iāll be with you.
Iāll be with you.
