Pause

Use all the senses available to you. In this moment, what can you see, hear, feel, smell, and taste?

Take a deep breath. Exhale.

Now open the ears of your heart to hear the voice of God.

Listen

You must be doers of the word and not only hearers who mislead themselves. Those who hear but don’t do the word are like those who look at their faces in a mirror. They look at themselves, walk away, and immediately forget what they were like. But there are those who study the perfect law, the law of freedom, and continue to do it. They don’t listen and then forget, but they put it into practice in their lives. They will be blessed in whatever they do.

James 1:22-25

Think

In today’s scripture, the apostle James touches on a subject that Dr. Miguel Ruiz, in his book “The Four Agreements,” mentions and explains in a fascinating way. The first agreement refers to being impeccable with our words, reminding us, as James also does, that words have power. Through our words we can encourage, we can proclaim blessings, that is, we have the power to transform complicated situations that lead us to improve our relationships with those around us.

Words do not come alone; they are accompanied by actions. When our actions match our words, that is called congruence. In other words, if we put into practice what we say, we enhance the value of our words. So we have the power to decide what to talk about and what to keep quiet, in order to be agents of change for others.

Question to Ponder:

How have your words and actions been (or not been) in alignment?

Pray

God, touch my lips and my heart and help my actions to line up with my words.

Amen.

Go

Go in peace recognizing that God’s love is sufficient.

Go trusting that Christ is your faithful friend.

Go shining with the light of the Holy Spirit.
