God revealed his hidden design to us, which is according to his goodwill and the plan that he intended to accomplish through his Son. This is what God planned for the climax of all times: to bring all things together in Christ, the things in heaven along with the things on earth.

Have you ever seen an optical illusion painting? Perhaps you have seen the image that is both an old woman and a young maiden. Or the image of a saxophonist and a big head. When our eyes are first drawn to such paintings, we often can only see one of the images. For some of us, it is really hard to see the other image. The information gathered by the eye does not necessarily coincide with our initial understanding. We think there is only one thing there and then, BAM! we’re seeing something completely different! What we thought was only one thing is so much more. We think and see differently.

The same is true in Christ. Even though we may not be able to physically see a world coming together in peace, in Christ there is still another image present. What we thought couldn’t be and maybe can’t fully see just yet actually is. In Christ we are all already one in peace, woven together by love.

Pray

God, prepare me to be open to the “BAM!” moments found in Christ. Let me not run away from them but embrace the possibility of how being open to this new way of seeing can actually change the world. Amen.
