What expression of love do I desire from God today?

What expression of love will I offer the world today?

Listen

“I’m praying for them. I’m not praying for the world but for those you gave me, because they are yours. Everything that is mine is yours and everything that is yours is mine; I have been glorified in them. I’m no longer in the world, but they are in the world, even as I’m coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them in your name, the name you gave me, that they will be one just as we are one.”

John 17:9-11

Think

Jesus’ prayer for us is that God might protect us. Jesus spent his life caring for the people of God. He could not stay on earth forever; he did the work he was given to do and then returned to God. But his care for us did not end with his life.

Jesus calls on God to protect us, to go before us and preserve us from the harm we will surely meet in the world. Just like a shield or a protective device, God’s presence will not stop confrontation with harm. Instead, our awareness of God’s presence in our lives will act as a buffer and help us to be resilient when we stumble or face an attack.

Pray

Protective God, you are one with me and I am one with you. This world can be a dangerous place, keep me safe from all harm, lift me up when I fall, and deliver me from my distress. You are my keeper. Amen.

Go

God’s love for the world is worthy of praise.

Send me out into the world today to glorify God in all that I say and all that I do.
