Listen

Therefore, humble yourselves under God’s power so that he may raise you up in the last day. Throw all your anxiety onto him, because he cares about you. Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith. Do so in the knowledge that your fellow believers are enduring the same suffering throughout the world.

Think

Sometimes it is easy to become overwhelmed, like the world is out to get us. Throughout life we are confronted by hard things and harsh realities, the enemy just around the next corner. This is just part of what it means to be a human. None of us is alone or unique in this experience. But, we can choose to trust in God’s loving presence through the tough stuff.

We know that God cares for us and wants what is best for us. God does not abandon us in our time of need. God can hold all of our worries and fears if we offer them up. We are called to set our burdens down, to cast our anxiety upon God, and rest in God’s abounding love and care for us.

Pray

Caring God, you know exactly what I need when I need it. Take from me all my anxiety and embrace me with your loving compassion when I am suffering. You have all power and might. Amen.
