Ordinary Time
Pause and imagine! “The Spirit of God and the Word of God are the fuel of your imagination. The key to the strongest and healthiest imagination is a daily quiet time.”
-Rick Warren
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against things like this. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the self with its passions and its desires.
If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-25
I grew up in the countryside, and one of my fondest memories is of climbing the guava tree to make sure the fruit was ripe. I love to eat guavas! Especially before they fall to the ground. In those days, my friends and I would risk our well-being just to enjoy one juicy guava.
The fruit Paul speaks of in Galatians is highly desirable and botany would classify it as an “infructescence,” a multiple fruit. Paul contrasts how a genuine relationship with the Holy Spirit allows our life to flourish and bear fruit. He is not referring to just any fruit; it will be fruit that nurtures our character with virtues that make us more like Jesus. Each virtue will require our surrender and, perhaps, move us out of our comfort zone. But it is precisely there that we will grow and bear fruit that glorifies God. That longed-for fruit will not only transform our lives but will serve as spiritual nourishment for others. Imagine how many could know God’s character by tasting the fruit God is forming in you.

Question to Ponder:
How does your life reflect the fruit of the Spirit?
Dear God, unsettle me and take me out of my comfort zone. Transform me. I desire to blossom and bear fruit in you. Amen.
Radiate God’s light and share God’s truth.
Live with dignity and attain God’s fullness.
Don’t settle, answer God’s call.
God will use you if only you say yes!
