Following the Star

Pause

What's in a name?

Jesus' name means “God saves.” That's a powerful message to be reminded of every time you hear the name.

Remember that God saves. Remember that God is with you. Remember that you are never alone.

Listen

Mary committed these things to memory and considered them carefully. The shepherds returned home, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. Everything happened just as they had been told.

Luke 2:19-20

Think

What was the last thing that you memorized? Was it some fact for a quiz or test? Was it some piece of vocabulary for a foreign language? Was it the lines to a song you like? Was it a passage of scripture that moved you?

Sometimes the things we memorize do not always show how we are committed to our faith. And sometimes they do. Making room for our faith in our memories is an important part of following God. Do we carry in our minds the messages of God’s love and hope, so that they can comfort us when we need them? Are God’s messages and actions there for us to recall and share with others? Can we think of a recent time when we felt God’s love?

Mary took all that was happening and all she had experienced of God and held it close in her mind. She thought about it and wondered what it all meant. Today take a few moments and just wonder about your experience of God in your life.
