Following the Star

What's in a name?

Jesus' name means “God saves.” That's a powerful message to be reminded of every time you hear the name.

Remember that God saves. Remember that God is with you. Remember that you are never alone.

Listen

Adopt the attitude that was in Christ Jesus:

Though he was in the form of God, he did not consider being equal with God something to exploit.

But he emptied himself by taking the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings.

When he found himself in the form of a human, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:5-8

Think

Do you ever move the furniture around in your room? Moving the bed to the opposite wall, creating a space to sit and read that did not exist before? Or even using the dresser as a partition that creates the feel of two rooms? We move things around often to make space for something new or for some new activity. We do this in classrooms, meeting spaces, and even churches. We move things aside so that something else can take place.

The life, death, and witness of Jesus call us to rearrange our priorities and values. In our own lives sometimes we have to be willing to move aside, to make room for someone else to shine. It is important to remember that it is not all about me. We share the stage with all those around us. Are you making room for them to shine as well?

Perhaps more important, are you making space for God to shine through in your life? Or is it all about you and what you do and want? Take time today to make space for others, to make space for God.
