Following the Star

Pause

After the excitement of birth comes the quiet realization that things are not going back to the way they were.

Breathe deep. Look around. Jesus has come, and he is here, living among us.

Listen

And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. The peace of Christ must control your hearts—a peace into which you were called in one body. And be thankful people.

Colossians 3:14-15

Think

“Love came down at Christmas,” begins a famous verse by the English poet Christina Rossetti. If God is love, and Jesus is God in human form, then it makes perfect sense. Jesus is the embodiment of God’s love – Love came down at Christmas!

Paul tells us that no matter what other qualities we may clothe ourselves with – kindness, patience, humility – love is the one which binds all others together. But we cannot generate this kind of love on our own, so we need the gift of Jesus, who is Love made flesh. This is the kind of love that can unify us, bring us peace, and make us truly thankful.

“Love came down at Christmas,
Love all lovely, Love divine;
Love was born at Christmas;
Star and angels gave the sign.

“Worship we the Godhead,
Love incarnate, Love divine;
Worship we our Jesus,
But wherewith for sacred sign?

“Love shall be our token;
Love be yours and love be mine;
Love to God and others,
Love for plea and gift and sign.”

Ellen Di Giosia

Pray

O God, I celebrate your gift of Love made flesh, knowing that Love still lives among us.

Flood my heart with that love and bring me peace, that I may live in unity and share love with all those I meet.

Amen.

Go

Jesus has come, and he is here, living among us. Life will never be the same.

So take a deep breath and turn your eyes to the world. Find him there.
