Ordinary Time

Pause

“All that glitters is not gold.” Stop. Take a breath. Tune out the shiny distractions all around you.

Take this moment to turn toward the Light of Christ.

Jesus shines each and every day — all we have to do is pause and see.

Listen

We don’t preach about ourselves. Instead, we preach about Jesus Christ as Lord, and we describe ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. God said that light should shine out of the darkness. He is the same one who shone in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:5-6

Think

Light is one of those things that we often just take for granted. Especially since we live in a world where a simple flip of a switch will instantly light up a whole room. But what if you lived in Jesus’s time when you had to kindle a fire at night in order to see? What if you had to tend that fire for warmth, security, light?

Light, when it’s easy to come by, is taken for granted. But anyone who has ever been through a major trial or has been depressed knows that it’s the light that comes in the darkness we treasure the most. It doesn’t have to be a big spotlight — even the tiniest shimmer seems to be a big glow when you’re sitting in the dark.

God created light out of darkness. God called forth the light even in the midst of chaos. And God is still kindling light even today. The light shines in the face of Jesus Christ, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Pray

God of Light, you shine bright in the night. You kindle warmth, security, and light even in the dark. The city of my heart does not need the sun or moon or stars — all I need is your light. Your glory is my lamp. Amen.

Go

Renewed, restored, refreshed, refocused on the Light of Christ — that’s you! Now it’s time to go forth and let your re-kindled light shine for all to see.

You’ve got this.

Go, let it shine!
