Memberships matter. Who we connect up with tells a lot about who we are, what we value, and what others can expect from us.

The call to discipleship is pretty simple: Join Jesus!

The call is there for you right now. These next moments could reveal a lot about who you are, because of who you choose to be related to.

Listen

O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.

Psalm 139:1-6

Think

Do you have a friend or family member that you know so well you know what they are going to say or do before they say or do it? Maybe they know you just as well, so that they can predict what you will say by the expression on your face. Sometimes we know someone so well that we can guess what they are thinking, and when they tell us, we might actually be right!

In today’s psalm, the writer says that God knows everything about us through everything we do, and that God searches every part of our hearts. Imagine the person who knows you best. Even though he or she might know almost everything about you, God knows your heart and mind perfectly. Like a loving parent, God knows us completely, and always wants to be close to us. The psalmist reacts to this by saying that this is too wonderful to understand! The creator of the world knows the corners of your heart, your every thought, and loves you continually.

Pray

Dear God, thank you for knowing every part of me, and for holding me in your hands. Amen.

For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps.
