Journey to the Cross

Pause

In sadness or celebration — know and believe that you are loved by God.

Listen

“Now I am deeply troubled. What should I say? ‘Father, save me from this time’? No, for this is the reason I have come to this time. Father, glorify your name!”

Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

John 12:27-28

Think

There will be times in our lives when our faith will cause others discomfort and may even create situations where we may be challenged.

During these times, we must decide if our faith is simply an intellectual exercise or if our actions will bear witness to how God wants us to live in the world. This might mean:

  • Challenging a friend who says something racist.
  • Protesting actions by political bodies.
  • Calling out family members who perpetuate unhealthy relationships.

These moments are not easy, for when we live our faith deeply we risk losing status, relationships, and even safety. But these are the exact moments — when we stand up and raise our voices while the world wants us to sit down and be silent — in which we truly glorify God.

Pray

God, when I feel like tempering my faith out of fear or discomfort, give me the courage and strength to live it to the fullest. Amen.

Go

Go forth into the world with justice and compassion in your heart.

Give voice to the silent.
Give strength to the weak.
Hear one another.
See one another.
Care for one another.
And love one another.

It’s all that easy.
And it’s all that hard.
