Following the Star

Pause

May the love of God create in us a new heart this Advent.

May God wake us up to be joy,

to seek joy,

and to notice Christmas joy.

May God prepare our hearts to receive God’s good news of great joy.

Listen

The Lord will rule forever! Zion, your God will rule from one generation to the next! Praise the Lord!

Psalm 146:10

Think

Praise the Lord! You don’t hear that phrase offered every day. Do you think we could bring it back? It is joyful, exuberant, and fun to say. Praise the Lord!

The phrase is a celebration of all that God is doing in the world. A celebration of all that God is and the promises of God that are so very true. Praise the Lord!

Psalm 146 provides the basis for our Advent hope: God rules “from one generation to the next.” God is faithful, a keeper of promises. We have faith in the one who has made the heaven and earth; the one who brings to fulfillment the promises to Jacob and all Israel; the one who executes justice and righteousness for all people; the one in whom we find healing. Our God is present in the promises of these words as we live into this season of the Advent of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Don’t you feel it deep in your bones? Say it with me, Praise the Lord!

Pray

God, in gratitude, for this moment, for this breath, I offer you deep praise.

Open my eyes to your light that shines in the darkness,

Open my heart to your love that is abundant, and

May I accept your grace that is more than amazing.

Praise to you, God, for all that you are.

Amen.

Go

The good news of great joy isn’t just something to receive, accept, or even consume.

Be great joy.

Offer great joy in kind, loving relationships with those you love and those you haven’t even met yet.

God is still trying to get to us to bring good news of great joy for all the people. ALL THE people. That means you. And me. And them.

Good news of great joy for ALL.
