Following the Star

Pause

If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire. If you want to be wet you must get into the water.

If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them.

C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Listen

Lord, change our circumstances for the better, like dry streams in the desert waste! Let those who plant with tears reap the harvest with joyful shouts. Let those who go out, crying and carrying their seed, come home with joyful shouts, carrying bales of grain!

Psalm 126:4-6

Think

Life can be hard sometimes. There is so much hurt and sadness all around us in the world. Sometimes that hurt and sadness spread, making other people and situations feel hurt and sad. A friend might be in trouble, we might be frightened because of war, or a family member might be sick. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the hurt and sadness.

But remember that you are never alone and that God always goes before you and follows behind you. God can take our hurt and sadness and transform them into healing and joy. When you’re overwhelmed and don’t know what to do in a particular situation, turn to God and trust God to be your friend and helper. Ask God to help you, to comfort you, and to guide you. And then, as the Psalmist says, you’ll come back with shouts of joy!
