Ordinary Time

Pause

Hold out your hands expectantly,

listen for the Lord’s message:

the Lord who knows you and who guides you.

Welcome all insights into your heart.

This is your time with God.

Listen

You are the one who created my innermost parts; you knit me together while I was still in my mother’s womb. I give thanks to you that I was marvelously set apart. Your works are wonderful—I know that very well.

Psalm 139:13-14

Think

Are you artistic? Maybe you are a visual artist who creates paintings or photographs. Or maybe you write songs, poems, or stories. Perhaps you dance or play an instrument. In any of these expressions, the artist is the creator, weaving colors, words, or melodies into a unique and individual masterpiece.

God is our creator, the creator who knows us intimately. God has made each of us as unique and individual masterpieces. The psalmist praises the creator’s wondrous works which include the psalmist’s very self! That might sound conceited until we remember that we have been made in God’s image. Instead of thinking of God as an entity who watches us benevolently from afar, think of God as a close personal friend: God knows you better than you know yourself!

Question to Ponder:

How can I show God my thanks for existing and for creating a unique and wonderful me?

Pray

Creator God, thank you for making me.

You know me: my faults, my aspirations, and my intentions.

You love me and have set me apart: I am unique and I am yours.

Help me to live in a way that honors you.

Amen.

Go

Take with you a word of encouragement,

walking confidently into your day.

Remember that the Lord is as close as the touch of a hand,

protecting you, a precious vessel of clay.
