Ordinary Time

Pause

Then I heard the Lord’s voice saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

Isaiah 6:8a

If only it was this easy to hear God’s call and to answer it in our everyday lives.

Enter into this moment, quieting the din of your daily life, to rest in God’s embrace and listen anew.

Listen

You are the one who created my innermost parts; you knit me together while I was still in my mother’s womb. I give thanks to you that I was marvelously set apart. Your works are wonderful — I know that very well. My bones weren’t hidden from you when I was being put together in a secret place, when I was being woven together in the deep parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my embryo, and on your scroll every day was written that was being formed for me, before any one of them had yet happened. God, your plans are incomprehensible to me! Their total number is countless! If I tried to count them — they outnumber grains of sand! If I came to the very end — I’d still be with you.

Psalm 139:13-18

Think

Legos? Wooden blocks? PlayDoh? Lines of code in a program? Dirt and water (a.k.a. mud)? Sand? Duct tape and cardboard?

What are your favorite things to make something out of? What materials do you find most helpful and most fun to work with when you’re creating? What do you like to make? Do you always have a purpose in mind when you’re making?

We have been carefully made with only the finest of materials by God. God’s justice, mercy, hope, and love carefully knit each of us together — from our innermost parts to those bits of our personalities and our hearts we choose to share with others in our everyday lives. And God’s plans and purpose for us are endless as God calls each of us to welcome others to those very building blocks of God’s grace that shape our hearts.

God’s works are wonderful. I wonder what goodness and light we might each create today for another.

Pray

Gracious and loving God, you made me; you know me; you call me. Help me to discover the innermost parts of your grace within me and to marvelously share them with another today. Amen.

Go

I said, “I’m here; send me.”

Isaiah 6:8b

May we go into our days celebrating that God knows us, loves us, and calls us to share that grace and care with all whom we encounter today.
