Ordinary Time

Pause

Take a deep breath in, consider all the things that are weighing on you today.

As you breathe out, imagine breathing out all the stress and anxiety.

Breathe in again. Imagine breathing in the love of God.

Exhale and imagine sharing that love.

Listen

“But the one who is greatest among you will be your servant. All who lift themselves up will be brought low. But all who make themselves low will be lifted up.”

Matthew 23:11-12

Think

Today’s scripture represents the upside-down reality of Christ. The high will be brought low. The low will be lifted up.

Take a moment this morning and imagine a world where this was true. A world where everyone sits at the same table, the rich and the poor, the strong and the weak, the weary mother working three part-time jobs and the young man who will never have to work a day in his life. People from all walks of life sitting side by side, serving one another, sharing food, and fellowship.

What other people can you imagine at this table? And where are you in this picture?

Does this image bring you hope or make you uncomfortable?

Question to Ponder:

What is one thing you could do today to help make this upside-down reality of Christ become a reality in your own life?

Pray

God the ultimate servant, thank you for showing me what it means to be a servant.

Help me to look for ways that I can serve others.

Help me have the courage to live into the upside-down reality of Christ.

Amen.

Go

As you go, take moments throughout the day to stop and breathe in the love of God.

Then breathe out God’s love on those around you.
