Journey to the Cross

Pause

Be still.

Inhale a breath of love and know that God is very near.

Listen

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life.

John 3:16

Think

God gave an only son, so we could have eternal life. It’s kind of a big thought. Especially as so many are still stuck in a stay-at-home life that feels like it will never end. So, what if we re-frame it? God gave an unimaginably precious gift, so that we could live an amazingly precious life. Or, maybe “God gave so we could live.”

I once was given a precious gift from someone who had very little money. She lived in a tiny green house with no running water. We’d become friends over the course of my summer job and, as I stopped to say goodbye, she surprised me with the gift. It had taken her three weeks to gather the delicate white string to crochet into, what she told me, was a bookmark for my Bible.

The bookmark, in the shape of cross, is a beautiful reminder of the gift of God’s son. It is also a tangible example of the precious gift that God gave each of us, so we can live a precious life.

Pray

Dear God, thank you for the gift of your son Jesus. Help me to follow his example in my life. Show me how to share your gracious love with someone I will see today. Amen.
