Journey to the Cross

Pause

Gently, gently, God is coming to you.

Quietly, patiently, Jesus is listening to you.

Peacefully, lovingly, the Spirit is speaking to you.

Listen

Come, let’s worship and bow down! Let’s kneel before the Lord, our maker! He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the sheep in his hands. If only you would listen to his voice right now!

Psalm 95:6-7

Think

Like the woman at the well in our devotions earlier this week, learning of God’s care for each of us fills us with a sense of belonging. It comes out in singing, but that joy also goes into our bodies. Kneeling and bowing down are ways of letting our bodies tell the story of our belonging to God. Having been given the care that God gives us, we run and tell, we jump and shout, and we kneel and bow down. That’s what the spring of living water can look like when our understanding of God’s love fills us to overflowing.

Of course, some people are not as expressive as others. All bodily signs of belonging to God may not be present in every person. But the celebration in Psalm 95, like the reaction of the Samaritan woman at the well, is a sign of the life that flows out of us when we let the love of God and the attention and care God offers sink deep down into our bones.

Pray

Lord, let your loving care fill my heart this day. As it fills my heart, may the overflow find those places that most need to feel your love. Work in me, work through me. Amen.

Go

Drink of the deep love of God. As it fills your heart, let it overflow to those near you who most need to be seen and heard by God.
