Following the Star
The world waits for a miracle
The heart longs for a little bit of hope
Oh come, oh come, Emmanuel
“Light of the World” by Lauren Daigle
They went quickly and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw this, they reported what they had been told about this child. Everyone who heard it was amazed at what the shepherds told them. Mary committed these things to memory and considered them carefully. The shepherds returned home, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. Everything happened just as they had been told.
Luke 2:16-20
God’s promises are true. “But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19 NRSV
As a mother, it is hard not to think of all the agony, pain, and exhaustion that young Mary has endured in these past few months. Her body is vulnerable and tender. She is both overwhelmed and filled with hope. She’s had to hide and travel long distances to be where she is now. She is scared and full of joy. After all, she just birthed the long-awaited Messiah.
Yet, among all the things happening around her, like a crying newborn and visiting shepherds full of awe and excitement, she reflects on the promises God has made and the call that God placed in her life. She demonstrates the importance of reflection and meditation on God’s working in our lives as we allow God’s presence to deeply impact and shape us.

Question to Ponder:
What are the promises of God that you treasure and ponder in your heart?
God who walks with me at all times,
in the chaos of many things happening at the same time,
help me to dedicate time for reflection and meditation to treasure your promises.
Amen.
Glory to the light of the world
Glory to the light of the world
For all who wait
For all who hunger
For all who’ve prayed
For all who wonder
Behold your King
Behold Messiah
Emmanuel, Emmanuel
