Following the Star

Pause

The world waits for a miracle

The heart longs for a little bit of hope

Oh come, oh come, Emmanuel

“Light of the World” by Lauren Daigle

Listen

Sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord! Bless his name! Share the news of his saving work every single day! Declare God’s glory among the nations; declare his wondrous works among all people because the Lord is great and so worthy of praise. He is awesome beyond all other gods because all the gods of the nations are just idols, but it is the Lord who created heaven! Greatness and grandeur are in front of him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Psalm 96:1-6

Think

At the Cathedral, we have chapel every Wednesday with the children from the Cathedral Montessori School next door. I often hear the children sing this song with all their hearts in their tiny high-pitched voices:

My God is so BIG, so strong and so mighty
There’s nothing my God cannot do
My God is so BIG, so strong and so mighty
There’s nothing my God cannot doooooo!

(Songwriters: C. Barny Robertson/Dp)

Much like the psalmist, the children sing with joy and praise about how great God is. Hearing them, it’s hard not to sit back, smile, and think about all the beautiful things God has done for us and continues to do. The psalmist shares resounding praise and gratitude toward a God that is so BIG, so STRONG and so MIGHTY. Great are God’s works for us! So, let’s lift our voices and live in praise to the God that is so BIG. May our worship continue into our daily interactions, proclaiming the greatness of our God among us all.

Question to Ponder:

As the year 2023 comes to an end, for what are you praising God?

Pray

God of strength and might,

I thank you for the many ways you have showered me with your love.

May I always find favor in your sight.

Amen.

Go

Glory to the light of the world

Glory to the light of the world

For all who wait

For all who hunger

For all who’ve prayed

For all who wonder

Behold your King

Behold Messiah

Emmanuel, Emmanuel
