Pause

Love enters the world of its own accord, for its own reasons. And love is always accompanied by light. That is, love always illuminates the space it occupies.

Watch now for love to enlighten your world. Look to see what new understanding is yours in the presence of love.

Listen

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:12-13

Think

Today, we do not often have opportunities to show a friend how much we love them by dying for them. So how can Jesus’ words in this verse be helpful to us?

If you were to give up your life for someone else, it would become clear that you are putting their needs in front of your own needs.

Perhaps Jesus is telling us that when we put someone else’s needs in front of our own, we are being true friends.

This is the mark of great love.

Pray

God, as I try to live more in the way you have called me to live, remind me that by caring for the needs of others, I move closer and closer to becoming the person you have created me to be. Amen.

Go

As a friend of God,
Go now with the gift of love.
Be prepared to receive joy,
For joy is love's result.
And be set free in your faith,
A faith that does not burden you,
But frees you also to love.
