Ordinary Time
Love moves us to understand that we are created to live in relationship with God, with others, and with all of creation.
“If you love those who love you, why should you be commended? Even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, why should you be commended? Even sinners do that. If you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, why should you be commended? Even sinners lend to sinners expecting to be paid back in full. Instead, love your enemies, do good, and lend expecting nothing in return. If you do, you will have a great reward. You will be acting the way children of the Most High act, for he is kind to ungrateful and wicked people. Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate.”
Luke 6:32-36
We all have the capacity to give and forgive, even those who do not follow Jesus. However, those who follow Jesus and practice love and justice reflect the true family of God. It is not just about doing good occasionally but living with a genuine commitment to compassion and justice on a daily basis. Being part of God’s family does not mean simply following rules but reflecting God’s character in the world.
Jesus taught us that love is what distinguishes and unites us. By loving one another with sincerity, we show that we are God’s people, called to impact the world with God’s love. This love compels us to see others with mercy, to forgive without reservation, and to act justly, even when it is difficult. By living this way, we not only follow Jesus, but we bring God’s light to a world in need of hope, restoration, and truth.
